Chapter 18

Kiira

I jolted back inside my body, opening my eyes wide and gasping for air as I sat up. I was cold. Really cold. And wet. Rain trickled down from the trees that covered the sky down onto my body. I glanced out through the opening of the forest in front of me, looking up at the thick grey haze of sky and then back down at my body. Instantly, I felt dizzy. I had completely lost all focus, feeling the Earth spinning fast below me. It was as though I was on a boat driving up and over each wave just like the one that Mom and Dad had taken me on during our summer holiday for my tenth birthday, and instead of spending the day snorkelling out on the reef, I spent it curled up on the back of the ship with my head deep inside a bucket.

I turned to my side, and without another thought, my stomach curdled, forcing me up on all fours, and I vomited whatever was left in my stomach—grey and yellow mush by the looks of it. I gasped for air and threw up again and again until there was nothing left inside my stomach. I couldn’t even remember the last time that I ate. My stomach felt empty and although my head was still dizzy, I knew that I needed to learn how to control it. I couldn’t let it get the better of me. I brought myself up to my feet, holding onto the thin pine tree next to me. Taking in a couple of deep slow breaths, I gazed out through the dense forest I had run to, all just to find Liam, to give him one final chance to come back. What a joke.

I was an albet when I had run through here. Now I was just an extremely sick, dizzy human and time seemed a whole of a lot more precious now than it did when I had entered this place. I had no idea how long it was going to take me to get out of here, but standing here and thinking about the trip I had ahead wasn’t making it any easier.

You’ve got this, Kiira, deep breaths and keep your eyes on the prize. You can put up with a little bit of motion sickness right now. I gazed around, immediately regretting the quick spin of my eyesight. I was looking for Lulu. But, of course, she wasn’t here. How stupid of me to think I could see Lulu as soon as I dropped back down into my body, I couldn’t connect to any of my being guides. I had made that mistake before thinking that I could, and it was one of the very reasons I ended up right here today.

I’m here. I’m with you, Kiira. You’re not alone. I swore I heard Lulu call out, and I spun around again. Was I making this up? Had I lost my mind? Maybe I was completely fucking delusional, but at least I knew that I wasn’t dead.
